/ Our acoustic design office puts well-being at the heart of its thinking /

With proven consequences for health (sleep disturbance, stress...) and the economy (drop in productivity, property depreciation...), ADEME estimates that the social cost of noise will be 147 billion euros per year in 2021.

The quest for acoustic comfort in buildings is a fundamental issue and a concern for everyone.

At Sinteo, we place well-being at the heart of our thinking and adapt the sound ambience of our living spaces. Our aim is to create controlled ambiences, adapted to the uses of the spaces, which leave room for concentration, conviviality and rest.

Adapting, filtering and optimizing sound in our living spaces to achieve a controlled, well-reasoned noise level, adapted to use and leaving room for positive energies and soundscapes.

/ Our response to the challenges of acoustics /

The success of a project rests on two main pillars. The first is to define the results to be achieved in terms of sound comfort in our living spaces. In other words, we need to set the final acoustic performance expected by the customer, based on his specifications, regulatory requirements and any labels and certifications sought (BREEAM, HQE, NF Habitat HQE etc.). Subsequently, the measurement must attest to the consistency between the desired performance and that obtained after the work.

Today, the challenges of acoustics are divided between carbon-related issues and new or more complex construction principles.

Our multi-disciplinary teams ensure that acoustic issues are taken into account as early as possible in the design phase, for maximum efficiency and the best possible aesthetic integration. As experts in low-carbon and sustainable projects, we always give priority to innovative technical solutions that respect the environment and biodiversity.

/ Sinteo expertise /

We intervene throughout the life cycle of all types of buildings:

Offices

Housing

Schools

Workshops

Cultural spaces...

Whether they're built of wood or concrete - materials with very different behaviours. To translate the acoustic challenges of our sound spaces as far upstream as possible, and until the results expected from in situ measurements are obtained, we have opted for listening and teaching. Criteria taken into account include

  • Noise from the outside environment, which must be limited to respect the peace and quiet of local residents and users.
  • Airborne noise (chatter, TV, vacuum cleaner, etc.)
  • Footfall and impact noise (falling objects, etc.)
  • Noise generated by technical equipment (elevator, CMV, AHU, heat pump, etc.)
  • Acoustics in common areas (to limit reverberation, i.e. the fact that these spaces resonate and amplify noise)

Our vocation: to offer functional, remarkable spaces where it's easier to live, study, work and play... while meeting the challenges of a sustainable city, necessarily human and low-carbon.

/ How do we carry out an acoustic diagnosis?

At Sinteo, our acoustic design office offers two distinct initial acoustic diagnostics: the environmental diagnostic, which consists of measuring the level of silence required after the installation of our project, applicable to almost all projects, and the building diagnostic.

Initial diagnosis of the existing noise environment :

We carry out an environmental acoustic diagnosis in situ, or even a vibration diagnosis at the initial phase of your project, to take into account the site's noise context and accurately assess the acoustic challenges of the plot.

Diagnosis of existing preserved areas:

Acoustic diagnosis measurements of existing buildings are designed to characterize the current performance of your building's structure. The results obtained enable us to precisely size the acoustic treatments to be implemented to achieve the objectives of the acoustic program.

/ Our vision of the acoustician's job at Sinteo /

Guaranteeing the comfort of building occupants, we work to reduce noise pollution and man's acoustic footprint in his environment.

Aware of the problems associated with urban densification and the associated noise and vibration pollution, we are pro-active in ensuring the daily comfort of different living spaces.

We take up the challenge of low-carbon and sustainable construction, through innovative technical solutions (bio-sourced acoustic materials, wood construction, etc.). For each type of building and throughout its lifecycle, we manage the challenges associated with ..:

  • Regulatory requirements ;
  • To the comfort challenges associated with traditional certifications (BREEAM, HQE, NF Habitat HQE, etc.) but also by multiplying interactions with the other professions present at Sinteo in order to best integrate acoustics into environmental, low-carbon and sound ecology challenges within biodiversity;
  • Acoustics in timber construction;
  • To more advanced comfort issues, taking into account quality of life at work and in the occupant's rest areas.

The building acoustics profession is based on 3 fundamental principles:

  • Actively listen to customers' and future occupants' expectations and challenges in terms of sound ambience, depending on the space;
  • Analyze and make proposals for the definition of programs adapted to the acoustic challenges of projects;
  • Verify and ensure in situ measurement of the acoustic performance finally achieved on projects, via standardized tests.

The success of a project depends mainly on the combination of two technical criteria:

  • The first step is to define the objectives to be achieved in terms of results, in other words, to "define the final acoustic performance of the building" in terms of regulatory requirements, labels and certifications, specifications, etc. ... ;
  • Secondly, to ensure consistency between the performances determined in the design phase and the measurements carried out after the work has been completed. The aim is to ensure that sound spaces meet user expectations and add significant value to the property.

Acoustics

When acoustics lend an ear to biodiversity.

In the shadow of climate change, there's a subject that gets far less media coverage than global warming, but which could make a big splash. It's the state of sound on our planet, and in particular in the living world. There's no such thing as silence on Earth; noise is constantly being heard. Sometimes a source of annoyance, noise is above all a vector of information as surprising as it is varied.

Acoustics and noise in the era of low-carbon and energy transition

Driven primarily by the challenges of sustainable development, low-carbon and societal concerns, wood construction is on the increase in the design of new and renovation programs, whatever the purpose (housing, offices, hotels, cultural facilities). From an acoustic point of view, these new complexes in the French construction landscape raise a number of questions.
